Feelin’ Thrifty

22 Oct

I love thrifting!  Thrift stores, garage sales, consignment shops, dumps.  It’s all fabulous!  There’s nothing much better than finding what you need, getting it for a good deal, and recycling.

Hubs and I have found some good stuff being thrifty.  Games, a small weber grill, jeans, movies, belts, a moose antler and much more.  But, I have to say, our best score was what we found Saturday at St. Vincent De Paul thrift store in Waukesha, WI.

We were walking through the store browsing, when Eric suddenly got very excited.  He picked up his pace a bit and I didn’t realize what he was looking at until I was right there, and then it registered!  A portable dishwasher!  That looked brand new!!  And was a third of the cost of a new one!!!

We had been talking about getting a dishwasher almost as soon as we moved into our house.  We had room in the kitchen, we were tired of always having to hand wash dishes, and it just makes life easier.  It also gives us some more counter space.  We’ve already moved the mixer and knife block and freed up a big chunk of our counter.  Now we can slice and dice without having to bump into stuff.  Or worry about cutting our fingers off.

I know thrifting isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I would highly recommend trying it out.  You never know what treasures you’ll find.  And most stores are associated with great non-profits.  Getting things you want/need, saving some money, and helping out non-profits.  Like I said, nothing much is better than that!
